Group Discussion Prompts: Day 2, Session 4

Group Discussion Prompts: Structured prompts for small group discussions that explore practical ways to live a service-centered life and overcome obstacles to consistent service.

Objective:

These prompts will guide small group discussions, helping participants reflect on how they can live a service-centered life, integrating their faith into daily actions and ministry.

1. What does living a service-centered life mean to you?:

  • How do you define a life focused on serving others? Reflect on how Christ’s example challenges your understanding of service.
  • What small, practical ways can you serve others in your everyday life—family, work, or community?

Follow-up Question:

  • How do you plan to implement service into your daily routine?
  • Think of 1-2 specific things you can do regularly to serve others. What can you commit to starting this week?

2. Faith in Action:

  • How can your faith be more visible through acts of service?
  • Consider the concept from James 2:17 that “faith without works is dead.” In what ways does your faith currently lead you to serve others?
  • What areas of your life (work, community, personal relationships) could benefit from more intentional acts of service?

Follow-up Question:

  • What is one immediate way you can serve in response to your faith?
  • Identify a practical need around you—whether it’s emotional, spiritual, or physical—and think about how you can meet that need in a Christ-like way.

3. Overcoming Challenges to Serving Consistently:

  • What obstacles keep you from consistently serving others?
  • Is it a lack of time, resources, or energy? How can you work through these challenges to remain faithful to living a service-centered life?

Follow-up Question:

  • What steps can you take to overcome these barriers?
  • What practical strategies (scheduling time, asking for help, simplifying) can you put in place to ensure that service remains a priority?

4. Sustaining a Service-Centered Life:

  • How can you sustain a service-centered life long-term?
  • What habits or routines can you establish to keep your focus on serving others?
  • How can prayer, scripture reading, and accountability play a role in this?

Follow-up Question:

  • Who can hold you accountable to living a service-centered life?
  • Discuss how your group or community can support and encourage each other in making service a lasting part of your faith journey.

Additional Scripture References for Group Discussion:

  • James 2:14-17: Faith without works is dead—how can we turn our faith into action?
  • Colossians 3:23-24: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.
  • Galatians 6:9-10: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
  • Matthew 25:35-40: Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for Christ.

Encourage participants to share practical steps they will take to serve others and offer prayer and accountability to support one another on this journey.
